Court Decision Regarding Detention of Children

NSC applauds and supports the work of the Center for Human Rights & Constitutional Law(CHRCL), lead counsel on efforts to make sure the government abides by the 1997 Flores settlement. NSC’s Senior Director of Legal Services has visited the Berks Family Detention Center twice in the past eight months with CHRCL teams monitoring the conditions for children at that site. It is clear that both family separation and family detention are inhumane policies. Individuals and families seeking refuge in the United States should be released from detention and allowed to present their cases in immigration court.
